Cust Continued…

I’m not sure what Beane was thinking when he put Cust up for assignment. And I’m not alone…it made the homepage of Yahoo! today. Now I know some people aren’t happy with his batting average. Heck, I’ll admit it, it’s not too great. But first off, you can’t judge his performance based on just 50 at bats in Spring Training! That’s crazy! If you’re going to do that, then who’s to say Sheets shouldn’t have been reassigned. He’s had an ERA of 11.2 this season at Spring Training and he hasn’t played in over a year! I’m not saying Sheets should get put on assignment….I’m just trying to make a point that this is ridiculous!

Now like I said, Cust’s batting average hasn’t been great in past seasons, but I think people are forgetting 2 important things:

1) Cust gets on base! Sure it’s not by hits all the time (which is obviously prefered) but he gets walked (a lot)! I don’t know about you, but I would rather see a guy get on base from a walk then walk back to the dugout with 3 strikes and you’re out!

2) He’s our HOME RUN HITTER!! Being in last place last season was no picnic, but we do have some things going for us. So why would you want to take someone who can hit over 25+ home runs a season away?!?!

I just don’t get it…Cust I’ll miss seeing you in our outfield.

Please Don’t Jinx Chavez

How long has it been since Chavez played an entire season with the A’s? Too long if you ask me. The poor guy has been on the injured list so many times most of us never thought he would be able to make it back. But we started to get some hope as Spring Training started. Chavez started to play in some games, all seemed well, heck he even hit 2 home runs in one game!! I think my jaw hit the floor a little. But anyways…Spring Training has now come to a close, and one of the first things I read is about Chavez not being injured so far.

I don’t want to count our chickens before they hatch so all I can ask is…please don’t jinx him. I don’t think I’m asking to much am I? This is the last year of his contract, and if he ends up retiring soon, lets see him go out with a great (regular) season, not injured.

5 days left until Opening Day! But first we play the Giants starting Friday in our Battle of the Bay series….Go A’s!!

Chad Gaudin is Back!!

That’s right…Chad Gaudin is back in Oakland! I think I took a double take when I saw the headline at first. The Yankee’s had released Gaudin on Thursday and we quickly went in and offered him a deal. It will definitely be nice to see a familiar face come back on the mound. Hopefully all works out.

The only question I have is…why wasn’t Swisher apart of the deal?

Go A’s!

Mazzaro, Carter, & Taylor

Well I just read that Mazzaro was optioned to Sacramento earlier today. Sadly I figured this would happen just because of the fact that Cahill and Gonzalez seem to have the best chance at the 5th spot in our starting rotation. But since I can't make it down to spring training, and watch some games, it would have been nice to see how Mazzaro's been doing since last season. He's got great potential; I think he just needs to work on his consistency.

But for being a rookie last season and getting thrown into a starting position he did pretty darn well. Hopefully he can work out any kinks he has so we can see him on the mound in Oakland again...and soon

In other news...Carter was also sent to Sac. with Mazzaro, and Taylor was sent to the A's Minor League camp (which came as a bit of a surprise to me).

Well regular season is almost here...only 9 more days and I can't wait! Go A's!!

Petit for Ramirez

Well I just checked my phone to look and see if there’s any Oakland A’s news, and a new trade has just been anounced. We traded Petit for Edwar Ramirez.

Ramirez is coming from Texas, but he played for the Yankees for the past 3 seasons from what I’ve read.

If there are any Yankee, Ranger, or baseball fans that could give me a heads up on Ramirez’s game, I would really appreciate it.

On a side note…I just checked the TV listings, and the A’s vs. Dodgers game might be shown tonight. I’m keeping my finger’s crossed that it won’t be blacked out.

New Stadium Blues

So MLB commissioner Bud Selig came down to Arizona today to discuss a major topic for the A’s…a new stadium.

From what I understand, Selig stated the A’s need a new stadium because as most people know, we share a stadium with our Oakland Raiders. Now I’ll admit, we could definitely use a new stadium. Our poor stadium is out of date, and doesn’t attract people to our games (and we need more fans in the seats).

But I am one fan that wants our Oakland A’s to stay in Oakland!

I think all the people involved need to come to an agreement that would make the A’s, the city of Oakland, and most of all..us fans all happy.

I will admit…I’m siding with the Giants! What? Did that just come out of my mouth? Yes, yes it did. But I have a very good reason. Lew Wolff wants to move the A’s down to San Jose (too far in my opinion), but it’s within the Giants Santa Clara zone.

Fight for your territory Giants!

There’s got to be some other area for the A’s to move to if they won’t stay where we are now…but in Oakland.

Anyone here have any ideas?

Thanks

Fingers Crossed…

Now I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch…but it looks like Duchscherer is about to make a come back! Alright Duke! I can’t wait to see him back on the mound. I was fortunate enough to see him pitch right before he left for the All-Star game 2 seasons ago. We played against LAA, and even though we lost, it was just great to see Duchscherer pitch in person.

I hope all goes well for the rest of Spring Training so he will be able to start in regular season. We definitely need him in our starting rotation, and maybe it will even bring fans back to our games.

Go Duchscherer!

Sheets…

Oh Sheets…what can I say? Besides the fact that I’m happy it’s only Spring Training. I really believe in our team this year, and I think we are going to have a come back year. But then when I hear that Sheets didn’t get 1 out during his last game…I’ll admit, I’m a little worried. Then lets add into the equation that he gave up 9 earned runs (one being a 2-run home run).

Boys…we have our work cut out for us!

The good thing to come out of all of this is he feels great. Which is most important. Now if we can improve his stats along the way. I don’t think I’m asking for much, am I?

Why Everidge???

So I’m reading today’s local paper and I notice a picture of Tommy Everidge at the bottom of the page. To my suprise I read and found out that he was picked up by the Mariners! I really must have read the article wrong on the A’s website a few months ago, because I thought he was still with us, just with our minor league teams…my mistake.

So sadly Tommy is no longer with our team, which I’m upset with because he was a great player who didn’t get enough time to show us everything he could do. But one things for sure he can hit the long ball. In fact in the article I read, he hit a Grand Slam yesterday for the Mariners!

I’m not sure why the A’s got rid of him, and I probably never will. But that’s just me being partial to him since he’s a local boy.

Well luckily we play the Mariners enough we will get to see him as long as he makes the team…which I hope he does. Treat him well Seattle….it’s “Tommy Time”

Spring Training

9-3…really?!?! Why did we have to lose to the Cubs 9-3? I hope this isn’t a sign or preview of what’s to come. Luckily it’s only spring training…better yet, it’s only the 1st game of spring training, so we WILL improve.

On to better news…Adam Rosales & Chris Carter both hit solo home runs. That right there is impressive. Way to go boys! Not sure who else got to play today, but I read Sheets will get to play tomorrow. I definitely want to see how he does, and hopefully we can get a win.

Go A’s!!
