Battle of the Bay Series – Day #3

The A’s got a much needed win today, and not only that…but we swept the Giants! Our pitching staff did great; we only gave up 1 run in the entire series…very impressive. Sheets did great today too…and even though he got a no decision, the rest of his stats show how well he performed.

I think this will definitely boost our moral, because we hadn’t been playing to our best potential lately. Let’s just hope we can keep the momentum going in the 10 game road trip were about to start.

On to Baltimore!

Go A’s!

Battle of the Bay Series – Day #2

Gio retires 20 batters in a row + he only allowed 2 hits & 1 walk + 5 strike outs + a shut out game = 1 unearned run gave us the win

I think that pretty much sums up today’s great performance…on to the final game of the series!

A’s vs. Giants – Game 1

First off….I want to say Thank You to Zito. The A’s finally got a win tonight, which we really needed. The past 2 games we’ve only scored 3 runs (not good). But tonight made up for it in more ways then one.

- First off, today is officially “Dallas Braden Day” in Oakland

- Braden’s Grandma got to throw out the first pitch (and did great I might add). She then got to unveil the new logo for Braden’s perfect game in the outfield wall, along with Braden & Powell. I’m really glad & proud to see that they honored Powell as well, after all he called the perfect game.

- On top of all of the excitement it’s the Battle of the Bay series! Zito started off really strong in the first few innings (kind of got me a little worried there), but my A’s stepped up. Which didn’t make Zito too happy. He’s now 0-4 against the A’s.

- Crisp also made his debut tonight, in fact he caught the first pop up of the game to give Cahill the out, and he almost hit a Home Run! If the wall was just a few inches shorter…so close!!

All in all it was a great game, we finally got some much needed runs in. Congrats to Cahill for getting the win tonight. Hopefully games 2 & 3 go in our favor as well. Can’t wait to watch.

Go A’s!

Ugh…

Well tonight’s game was sure interesting. Actually, let’s go back to the beginning…before the game even started I saw an article that Duchscherer and Cust were back! That right there brought a smile to my face, Duke hasn’t played since the end of April when he hurt his hip, and boy do we need him back. So game time was about to get under way and all of a sudden I hear that Duchscherer is out, Tyson Ross (our reliever) is in! Wait, what?!?

So I’m guessing Duke’s hip must have started acting up right before the game was about to start…because this was literally a last minute change. I must say though, Ross did very well the first 3 innings, but then the 4th inning came, and it was downhill ever since (12-3)

And then to add to the sadness…Cust was about to get an easy out in the bottom of the 8th, when he took his eye off the ball and it fell out of his glove.

Ugh…I’m not sure what else I can say, but on a plus, Texas lost too! Let’s hope we can shake these past few games off and start back up & get some wins!

Top Ten List…

I just finished watching Braden present the Top 10 List on Letterman tonight, and it was great! It included:

- His Grandma being right when she said “Stick it A-Rod”

- Braden realizing how cool his name is

- Hoping pop singer Justin Bieber will now notice him

- He is Iron Man!

- And to finish the list, Kate Hudson might be expecting a call from Dallas, haha!

I must say they did really great with this list. I was afraid they were going to over due the whole A-Rod thing, but I must say, Letterman’s writer’s did really well. And even before they started the list, Braden was true to who he is…very funny!

Afterwards, Queen Latifah came on and said how much she likes Braden’s Grandma because, “she can talk some smack.” haha.

To add to the night, the A’s also played against Texas and after a long 13 innings, we finally won! And boy do I mean “finally”. There was so much back and fourth, every time we would get the lead, they somehow would tie us. And if you noticed, they always seemed to get a base hit or a person on with 2 outs.

On a side note, Powell also got the 1st Stolen Base of his career! Congrats!

What a night…now I need to remind myself to grab a copy of Sports Illustrated which I heard is coming out tomorrow…Braden’s on the cover!

Braden & Letterman

I heard earlier today that Braden will present the Top Ten List on Letterman tomorrow (Tuesday) night. I’ll try and post the list for any who might miss it. I can’t wait…I have my post it note on my computer desk all ready to remind me.

27 Up & 27 Down = A Perfect Game

What a game! Dallas Braden just pitched a perfect game today, on Mother’s Day! It hasn’t been done in A’s history since since “Catfish” Hunter in 1968, and it’s only been done 18 times prior to today’s game in all of MLB history. Braden was just on today, as he shut down the Tampa Bay Rays. Like I said…what a game.

Now, I’m going to cover two games in one blog because I got to go to yesterday’s game. Yesterday, Ziegler was kind enough to purchase 200 tickets for military men & women, and their families.

I must say Sheets did a really good job, it seems as though he might finally be getting comfortable on the mound. He only allowed 2 runs and they were all in the second inning.

It also helped that our guys really stepped up. And thanks to an error made by the pitcher, Pennington was able to steal 2nd and 3rd. We ended up scoring 2 runs in the first (great way to start a game).

Barton also got a big play in over at home plate when the runner at 3rd got caught in a pickle while trying to run home…as you can see, it didn’t work out too well for the runner.

This series was great, we took the series with 2 wins, but we ended it with a perfect game! Now that’s baseball!

First Home Run & the Win!

Well, we finally broke the horrible streak we were on by getting a win today against Toronto. A special thanks to Gio, he pitched great today!

The past two games have been weird though. First we had Morrow, a local guy, pitching against us…and then today Eveland! I am glad to see that at least Eveland has moved up and is a starting pitcher…good for him.

And in a string of bad luck, with all of the injuries our team is seeing lately, it was nice to see some good happen in today’s game. Our rookie, Donaldson, made his first Major League start today as catcher and not only got his first hit today….but it was a Home Run! What a way to start your Major League career.

So Close…

A 3 Run Home-Run from Pennington + him and Rosales both had 4 hits each in todays game, and we somehow still lost to the Rays! Oh my.

I must say though, it was a good game. We were down 4-0 in the bottom of the 2nd, which is never good…esp. that early on in the game. But Pennington came back in the 3rd and hit a 3 run shot! Beautiful. We then were able to get bases loaded and scored 1 run. So now…we’re tied, new ball game, right? I wish…

What did they do? They too decide to hit a 3 Run Homer and then a solo…eh. Then to top it off, we might have actually tied them if something went our way. Pennington got a nice hit in right field, that got him to 3rd safely. However once it bounced off the ground, it hit the foul pole, which automatically makes it a ground rule double! I had never heard of that rule before, especially since it hit the ground first and stayed in the park. I don’t know. To me there’s no difference from the ball hitting the wall, but they saw a difference. So as a result we got a run taken away from us.

At least we can saw we played well…and got some good hits.

And on a side note, I want to send a thank you to the LAA…they lost their game tonight, which means we are still 1 1/2 games ahead…it’s a small lead, but hopefully we can gain some ground.

Radio Only…

I don’t know about you all…but I’m not a huge fan of radio only games, which is what the A’s game was today. And to top it off, the LAA vs. NYY game was shown on TV?!?! I understand they get a lot more viewers then us, but the A’s are local.

So, since the game was radio only, here was my attempt at getting the scores today:

- First: I went to the good ol’ radio in the living room…and what did I hear….static!

- From there I moved to the computer. I figured since I clicked on the “Listen Live” button on the radio station’s website that it would actually give me…oh, I don’t know, the game…haha. Sadly, it didn’t, I just got people talking (and not about the A’s).

- I then decided to head on over to Yahoo’s Game Channel for Live Scores. That is the best I can get as far as pretty live and accurate action. But for me, there’s just something about hearing and watching the game that you just can’t beat.

- Well, after we were down 3-1, and I sulked for a while…I headed into the kitchen and attempted to get the radio in there to work. And it did!! Why the heck didn’t I think of that in the first place??? I mean it’s the next room over…haha. Well at least I got to listen to the last 2 innings of the game, sadly those weren’t the best ones to listen to, as we lost 6-1….ugh, not pretty.

** Life Lesson…when a radio in 1 room doesn’t come in, move into the next room and try a different radio…it can work.

Hopefully our A’s can come back tomorrow and at least take the series from Cleveland.

Go A’s!
